Meet Your Mentor, Jess!
Hey future Interpreter! 👋🏽
I'm Jess, and I'm so excited for you to grow in your interpreting journey!
I'm looking to work with students actively learning ASL wanting to pursue Sign Language Interpreting in the future. If this is you, you're in the right place! I was in your shoes back in 2010 when I discovered interpreting as a career. I had no deaf family or friends at the time I started learning and I was so inspired to learn when I saw interpreters at a theater show for the first time. I was a professional dancer all throughout my education journey and was always good at memorizing choreography. When I started learning ASL, I was picking it up so fast visually that I knew I could learn it if I continued to use it. In high school I met my first Deaf "client", my teacher and now mentor/friend who taught me everything I know today. It was a tough road to take on and I didn't have a mentor for a very long time. I hope to be there for YOU!
Fast forward 12 years later of commitment, delays in my education, and accomplishing many dreams in between going to college, I am finally a full-time nationally certified sign language interpreter today. For 7 years I have been working in settings like Video Relay and Remote Services, Medical, Conferences, Cruise Lines, and Theater/Performance interpreting. Although it took time to grow my skills, I never stop learning. This job is not for the weak and if you're ready to take on the challenge and commit 100%, let's chat and see where you plan to go from here. Keep practicing and I'll meet you soon!
